Why These Three Fields Matter Most
In South India and Maharashtra, nakshatra, rasi and gothram are the first filter. Families often decide whether to continue reading based on these three lines alone. Getting them wrong — or vague — costs you matches quietly.
How to Write Each Field
Nakshatra / Natchathiram
Always include the paadam (quarter).> Nakshatram: Rohini – 3rd paadam
Common spellings differ by state (Thiruvathirai / Arudra, Ayilyam / Ashlesha). Use the spelling your community uses, and add the Sanskrit name in brackets if you are sending the biodata outside your state.
Rasi (Moon Sign)
Write the rasi name, not the English zodiac equivalent, when the biodata is in a regional language.> Rasi: Rishabam (Vrishabha)
Lagnam / Ascendant
Optional in a short biodata, but expected in Tamil and Telugu profiles.> Lagnam: Kanni
Gothram / Gotra
One word, spelled the way your family temple records it.> Gothram: Bharadwaja
Same-gothram matches are avoided in most communities, so this cannot be skipped or guessed.
Dosham / Manglik
State it plainly. Hiding it delays things and damages trust later.> Sevvai Dosham: Yes (2nd house) · Rahu-Ketu Dosham: No
Marathi families write the same field as मंगळ: आहे / नाही.
Birth Details That Make the Chart Possible
| Field | Format | Example |
| Date of birth | DD-MM-YYYY | 14-06-1998 |
| Time of birth | 12-hour with AM/PM | 04:35 AM |
| Place of birth | City, District, State | Madurai, Tamil Nadu |
An approximate birth time is the single most common reason a horoscope match cannot be done.
